Leaves oblong to lance-oblong or elliptic, rounded at base, short-stalked, per Wildflowers of Tennessee (Carman, 2005).

The petals are green and spreading (not reflexed); the hood is purple, per All About South Carolina Wildflowers (Midgley, 1999).
