Smooth Crabgrass is very much like Hairy Crabgrass (D. sanguinalis) and the native Southern Crabgrass (D. ciliaris), but differs mainly in its glabrous or glabrate lower leaf sheaths (vs. pilose), per Vascular Plants of North Carolina.
