Take a close look: Each colorful floret is formed from five petals fused into a tubular corolla. The long female part of the floret extends above the tubular corolla. It has a stalk (the style) that extends up from the ovary and splits in two.... The pollen-producing male parts (the stamens) are shorter and surround the lower part of the female style.
