Learn more about Murdannia from the Vascular Plants of North Carolina.
This species apparently arrived in our region earlier than M. keisak (Small 1933, for instance, treats this species and not M. keisak), but has naturalized less aggressively and is distinctly less common. Flowers open from about 11 am to 3 pm, per Weakley's Flora (2022)

If a search such as "Carex leptalea var. leptalea" doesn't deliver the results you want, try "Carex leptalea".
Or, to minimize chances of a misspelling, try just "Carex le".
Less is more: If "pencil flower" doesn't deliver the results you want, try "pencil".
